Energy independence can be a hot topic! Believe it or not, this concept affects so many aspects of our daily routine. From the way we heat our homes, to the way we get around town, energy independence has a huge impact on how we live. But have you ever stopped to think about what it really means? Allow us to help you out as we share our favorite tips on how you can move the world toward energy independence.

What is Energy Independence?

While sometimes a controversial topic, Energy independence is an important concept to understand, not only for your benefit but for everyone around you! Energy independence refers to the concept of becoming independent from fossil fuels and other traditional energy sources. This means producing enough energy at home to meet our own needs, instead of relying on other countries for fuel and electricity. Thanks to the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, the U.S. is widely making efforts to move towards energy independence.

What are the Benefits of Energy Independence

Being energy independent is a great goal to strive for! Not only does it help you be less reliant on fossil fuels, but it also helps the planet out as well. By becoming energy independent, you can help reduce pollution in the environment! In the same way, having this independence gives you freedom and control over your own energy usage and sources. In some cases, installing solar panels can qualify you for solar incentives that are designed to save you money.

In the same way, striving for energy independence gives you the opportunity to try a variety of energy solutions like wind and solar energy. Although eco-friendly gas and eco-friendly electricity won’t make you completely energy independent, these solutions can help move you toward a more sustainable future!

At Home Tips That Move You Towards Energy Independence

Achieving energy independence might seem like a huge task. If you feel like achieving full independence is a goal for you in future, here are some things you can do now to move yourself closer to the concept:

Switch to LED lightbulbs: These handy appliances use less energy than incandescent bulbs and last longer.

Insulate your home: According to Energy.gov, you can save up to 10% on your total energy costs just by insulating your home. Adding insulation to your attic or walls can keep heat from escaping during cold weather and will save you money in the long run.

Use energy-efficient appliances: Energy-efficient refrigerators or washing machines help reduce your energy consumption. These appliances are also equipped with water conversation tools and auto-adjusting cooling cycles to help you reserve energy.

Unplug unnecessary electronics: Even when electronics are not being used and are still plugged in, they still use energy.

Use natural light whenever possible: Natural light is free and easy to access! By choosing to use natural lighting instead of turning on the lights in your home, you’re saving yourself money on your energy bill. Plus, you’re making good use of what Mother Nature has to provide!

Energy independence plays an important role in our lives. With increasing access to renewable energy, we can take steps towards becoming more energy independent! It’s not only a good thing for mankind, but an excellent commitment towards a healthier planet.
