Even though Chicago is known as the third largest city in the U.S., navigating through the city is easier than you might think. And getting to Millennium Park is even easier. Here are some of the easiest ways to get to this park and navigate through what this landscape has to offer: 

How to get there 

Trains: From the subway, exit at Lake (Red Line) or Washington (Blue Line) and walk east. 

CTA Bus: Numerous CTA bus routes also serve Millennium Park and the surrounding area. You can use the CTA’s trip planner on their website or mobile app to find the best bus route for your location. 

Driving: Luckily for most Chicagoland locals, Millennium Park is at the most, an hour away from nearby suburbs. Making visiting this iconic landscape a snap and a fun day trip. However, if you choose to drive, you will have to pay for parking. Parking in Chicago according to Spot Hero costs an average of $30 depending on your location. 

If you’re looking to find parking close to Millennium Park, the city offers four Millennium Park garages. These garages are located directly under Millennium Park offering 2,126 spaces and 1.0 million square feet of parking space. Once you’ve parked, these garages lead out to the Jay Pritzker Pavilion which is located at 6 S. Columbus Dr. Chicago, IL 60601.

  • Pick up a map of Millennium Park from one of the information kiosks or download the “Millennium Park for All” app maps, schedules, and more. 
  • Start at Cloud Gate (The Bean): Use this iconic sculpture as your central landmark. 
  • Consider taking the “L” train or bus to get to Millennium Park, as parking can be limited and expensive.

Experience a fall concert 

In the fall, the magic of Millennium Park concerts truly comes to life. From symphony orchestras to world music ensembles, the concert lineup offers something for every musical taste. While summer offers the Chicago Summer Music series, the fall season still has an abundance of Millennium Park events to choose from.

Take some time to explore the park’s renowned public art installations. Millennium Park is teeming with some of the city’s best art pieces. Aside from the classic “Bean”, Jaume Plensa’s mesmerizing Crown Fountain is a sight to see even on a cold fall day.

Step into nature at the Lurie Garden 

Fall is often a time when flowers and plants tend to go dormant for the season leaving landscapes barren. However, if you find yourself at the Lurie Garden, there will be no shortage of leafy goodness to look at. Lurie Garden regularly plants seasonal and native foliage and flowers that are resilient to the changing temperatures of fall!  

Climb a rock wall 

Just a stone’s throw away from Millennium Park, you can climb a rock wall for ultimate fun! Maggie Daily Park offers two 40-foot rock-climbing walls. This is, in fact, Chicago’s first and only climbing park. At the time of this article was written, it can cost anywhere from $20-$30 to climb.  

Be sure to act on this opportunity fast, the rock wall closes the day after Labor Day. 

Visit the Art Institute of Chicago 

As the weather cools, spending a day exploring the museum’s world-class collection offers a rich and immersive experience. Located just a short walk from Millennium Park, the Art Institute provides a captivating journey through art history, from ancient artifacts to contemporary masterpieces. 

The Art Institute of Chicago offers a wide range of exhibitions that change from season to season to always offer something new. Also, if you visit during the right time, you might catch a free day for admission!

The Cultural Center offers a diverse array of exhibits, performances, and events that celebrate the city’s vibrant cultural heritage. Not only does the site offer fun things to do, but the building also has a stunning Tiffany stained-glass dome that’s perfect for capturing fall photos.

Picnic in the park  

If the weather is right, Millennium Park offers the perfect opportunity for a fall picnic. Pack a cozy blanket and a basket filled with seasonal treats, and enjoy a picnic in one of Millennium Park’s scenic picnic areas. With breathtaking views of the city skyline and the serene beauty of the park, it’s the perfect setting for a relaxing activity.

Rent a bike to ride on the park’s bike paths. You can also explore nearby attractions like the lakefront trail or Grant Park. The city of Chicago has a slew of Divvy Bikes to rent on the go. Plus, taking a bike ride is great exercise and the perfect way to enjoy nature! 

Visit a fall fest 

Fall isn’t complete without a visit to a pumpkin patch or attending a fall festival! While there are currently no fall fests planned directly in Millennium Park, there are events happening just a short walk or Uber ride from this area. These include: 

  • Lincoln Park Zoo’s Fall Fest: Spend the day learning about animal conservation at this annual event! Filled with a ton of family-friendly activities like mazes and pumpkin picking, this event offers something new every weekend. Best of all, this event is free to all visitors!  
  • Jack’s Pumpkin Pop-Up: Known as Chicago’s largest fall festival, and located in Goose Island in downtown, you won’t want to miss it. With seasonal activities like photo ops and fortune tellers, this event is great for adults looking for a night out. 
  • Nightmare on Clake Street: One of Chicago’s favorite annual Halloween-themed extravaganza will have you sleeping with the lights on. Featuring a multi-level haunted house and an upstairs bar. This event is for those 18 years or older because of the intense theming.  

Food near Millennium Park 

 Once you’ve had your fun, we’re sure you’ll be hungry for more. Here are choices for the best spots to grab a bite in Millennium Park: 

  • Billy Goat Tavern is famous for its “Cheezborgers,” this spot offers classic cuisine for everyone. 
  • Pizano’s Pizza & Pasta offers authentic and thick Chicago-style deep-dish pizza. 
  • Millennium Hall is a collective eatery located underneath Chicago’s iconic Cloud Gate offering brewed beer, Mexican delights, and Italian. 
  • Cindy’s Rooftop sits atop the 13th floor of the Chicago Athletic Association hotel. Cindy’s features local wild and seasonal produce and fresh seafood. 
  • The Gage is located across the street from the Crown Fountains in Millennium Park; making it a great stop for a bite to eat offering a wide range of fresh meals for all appetites.

Visiting Millennium Park is free, but the cost may depend on the activities you choose to do during your visit. Tours offered by the Chicago Cultural Center’s Greeter Service are also free, as well as guided tours of Lurie Garden.
