Here Comes the Sun: Benefits of Solar Energy

Renewable energy sources, like solar power, help reduce carbon emissions and protect the environment. As climate change becomes an increasingly important priority, renewable energy options are becoming more popular — and more affordable. It is easier than ever for homeowners to access renewable energy!

Among renewable sources, solar is one of the most plentiful. In just one hour, the planet receives enough sunlight to provide power for the whole world, for an entire year.1 That’s a remarkable amount of supply, which — unlike fossil fuels — is renewed every morning.

Solar technologies (such as photovoltaic panels or mirrors) capture sunlight and convert it into usable electricity. The electricity generated can then be transferred to the electrical grid along with energy generated by other sources. Electrical grid is an industry term for the overall system of equipment and wires needed to deliver electricity from generation plants of any type to local homes and businesses.

If you are a residential electricity customer in a deregulated energy state like Ohio, Illinois, or Pennsylvania — you have the option to choose an electricity plan that incorporates solar energy sources. And the choices you make can support:

A Healthier Planet

As more people choose renewable energy, carbon emissions will be reduced and air and water quality will improve, creating a more climate-friendly future for generations to come.

Investment in Clean Energy

If renewable sources are in demand, more businesses will see clean energy technologies as a good investment, which in turn could lead to more options and lower costs for everyone.

Jobs Growth

More interest in new technologies will also help create new jobs and economic growth as resources and people are necessary to build and maintain new energy facilities.

A Safer, More Reliable Grid

Energy from new and renewable sources can help create a more reliable and resilient energy grid.

Energy Independence

Solar power is local power. It can help the United States gain independence from overseas suppliers and support local economies.

Santanna Energy offers 100% renewable electricity plans to eligible customers in Ohio, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. Our renewable energy plan requires zero changes to your home. You simply choose a renewable plan and we will purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs), adding clean energy to the grid to match your consumption.2

2If you are enrolling in Santanna’s Renewable Energy plan, Santanna will either purchase electricity sourced from renewable resources or Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) from generation facilities located in the United States sufficient to cover the amount of electricity needed to serve you for the length of your contract. Electricity is the product of a mix of generation energy sources, that is delivered over a system of wires. So, it is not yet possible to deliver electricity from a specific generation facility directly to your home or business. However, purchasing this product enables you to directly support the continued use & development of renewable electricity, which helps to reduce carbon emissions and provides other local & global environmental benefits in the region where the renewable electricity generator is located. Santanna may take several months after the end of a calendar year to purchase and/or retire the RECs needed to fulfill your product.
